What this tool does

Engagement rate is the most-quoted and least-understood metric in social media. Vanity dashboards report inflated numbers; consultants quote benchmarks from 2019; the platforms themselves keep changing what counts. The simple math, applied consistently to your own account month over month, beats any agency dashboard.

How to use it

  1. Enter your follower count.
  2. Enter average likes per post.
  3. Add comments and shares if you track them.
  4. Pick your platform. We calculate ER% and show how it compares to current benchmarks for solo accounts in that platform.

Why it matters

A 1% engagement rate isn't 'bad' on Instagram in 2025 — it's the median. A 3% rate on LinkedIn is excellent. Most founders agonise over a metric they're misreading. Anchor on the right benchmark and you'll stop chasing the wrong number.

Frequently asked

Questions people actually ask.

What's a 'good' engagement rate?

Depends entirely on platform and account size. Larger accounts have lower rates by default — it scales inversely with follower count. The benchmarks shown here are for solo / small accounts and update as platforms change.

Should I count saves and shares?

Yes if you can track them — they're stronger signals than likes. The calculator lets you include them if you have the data.

My rate is low. Now what?

Content quality fixes it faster than any growth hack. Run a few captions through the AI-slop detector, rewrite anything that scores high, and look at your hook quality. ER almost always comes back when content quality goes up.
